The village

Arbanasi

The village of Arbanasi lies on the Arbanasi plateau, 4 km north-east of Veliko Tarnovo. It has been declared an architectural reserve and is a wonderful place for sightseeing and a rest.

The spirit of the Revival

Arbanasi is known for its preserved houses in the typical local style and for its many churches and fountains. The whole village has a look of its own: high, thick stone walls and cobbled lanes under the wide eaves of the houses. It breathes the spirit of the Bulgarian National Revival.

Arbanasi is a lovely place for a rest and a walk, and not only at the weekend.

The village is also a good starting point for visiting the nearby medieval capital, Veliko Tarnovo. A stay here not only refreshes you, it also fills you with pride in the history of the Bulgarian people, in their gift for building beautifully and in the mastery of their architects and icon painters.
